Finance and Product need shared economics.
Cross-functional alignment becomes easier when teams debate the same economic model instead of defending separate metrics.
The goal is not for Product to think like Finance—or the reverse. It is to create one decision language that preserves both customer and economic reality.

Different functions, different truths
Product may focus on customer response and experience; Finance on profitability; Risk on losses and appetite; Sales on volume. Each view is valid, but none is sufficient alone.
02
The shared layer
- Agree on economic definitions before comparing initiatives.
- Make time horizons explicit.
- Use scenarios to expose trade-offs rather than hide them.
- Connect customer behavior to contract and lifetime economics.

The management benefit
A shared model does not remove disagreement. It makes disagreement productive by moving the conversation from whose metric matters to which choice creates the strongest overall outcome.
